Known for it's friendly and informal atmosphere, this 16th century Coaching Inn retains a wealth of original features and is situated in the heart of the historic town of Midhurst. Sympathetically restored and upgraded, the hotel retains its heritage behind a late Georgian facade and many quality architectural features from its Tudor origins. Each of the hotel's 28 bedrooms have been individually decorated and furnished with carefully chosen antique furniture and quality fabrics. From the cosy to the grand, all offer a private en-suite bathroom; colour television, direct dial telephone and some have four poster beds and original beams. The quality of the food served at The Angel is central to the warm hospitality that is offered. Whether you choose Gabriel?s Restaurant or The Halo Bar you will find great food, impeccably presented and served. Gabriel?s has recently been awarded an AA Rosette and serves English food in a contemporary style using the freshest of seasonal local ingredients. The Halo Bar bistro encourages you to sit and watch the world go by in a more contemporary environment. The Angel Hotel has been closely associated with the historic town of Midhurst and neighbouring Cowdray Estate since the 16th Century, and is a fine example of an old English Coaching Inn. The front overlooks the main thoroughfare while to the rear, the recently restored secluded gardens offer a welcome haven as well as magnificent views of Cowdray Castle ruins. Midhurst is a quaint and picturesque ancient town nestling in the beautiful county of West Sussex. It is the ideal base from which to explore the heritage and many historic houses in the area including Petworth and Uppark. Goodwood, famous for it's horse racing, motor sports and sculpture park, is only 15 minutes away. The famous Roman City of Chichester on the south coast is just 20 minutes away. The Pilgrim Fathers stopped at The Angel en route to the coast and their journey to the 'new world'. Nowadays, the town is well placed for the major airports at Heathrow (46 miles) and Gatwick (35 miles), whilst the A27, the south coast road route, is only 28 miles away. The mainline station at Haslemere (7 miles) is on the London (Waterloo) to Portsmouth line and taxis are readily available.
